Pace
Fast-moving, city to city
Tokyo starts at full volume. Shibuya crossings, tiny restaurants, sumo, karaoke, late-night streets and cherry blossoms appearing between skyscrapers.
Then we leave the neon behind. Hakone slows everything down. Mountains, Lake Ashi, ropeways, an onsen stay and, if the weather is on our side, views towards Fuji.
Kyoto changes the rhythm again. Tea ceremonies, old streets, temples, Nishiki Market, geisha culture and spring evenings around Pontocho.
And then Osaka. Louder, hungrier and considerably less interested in going to bed early. Castle in the morning, food tour by evening, Dotonbori when the signs turn on.
All of it during one of Japan’s most anticipated weeks of the year.
This isn’t an attempt to see all of Japan. It’s eight days of seeing four very different versions of it, at a time when the country feels particularly special.
Trip highlights
Day by day
Eight days between Tokyo’s neon, an onsen night in Hakone, Kyoto’s temples and Osaka’s food streets, laid out day by day.
Days 1–8
Tokyo
Land in Tokyo. Check in. Realise fairly quickly that photographs did not prepare you for the scale of it.
We start in Shibuya, crossing the crossing because obviously we have to, then spend the evening getting acquainted with Tokyo at street level. Food, small lanes, bright signs, spring air and whatever catches our attention.
Later, we make our way towards Shinjuku and Harajuku. Stay for a drink, join the night out or call it when jet lag wins.
Core Experiences
Tokyo
Tokyo gets stranger in the best possible way today. We start with a sumo experience, then move into an older side of the city around Senso-ji and Asakusa before looking at Tokyo from considerably higher up.
Spring adds another layer to the city, with Sakura spots appearing between temples, rivers and neighbourhood streets.
By evening, we head back into modern Tokyo for dinner and drinks. Then comes one of Japan’s great social equalisers. Karaoke. Talent is very much optional.
Core Experiences
Hakone
Time to leave the city behind. We travel towards Hakone, where skyscrapers give way to mountains and water.
Explore Lake Ashi, take the Hakone Ropeway and then check into our onsen stay. If Fuji decides to make an appearance, even better.
The rest of the evening requires very little ambition. Hot spring. Dinner. Yukata.
Core Experiences
Kyoto
Breakfast, then onwards to Kyoto. After checking in, head towards Nishiki Market for lunch and enough wandering to accidentally eat several lunches.
Later, we step into a quieter side of Japan with a traditional tea ceremony and geisha cultural experience. Those who want to take the calm further can join an optional Zen meditation session.
Then the evening moves towards izakayas and the lantern-lit lanes around Pontocho.
Core Experiences
Nara
Today is for the Japan people imagine before they arrive. Temples, old neighbourhoods, shrines, gardens and spring landscapes.
We spend the day between Kyoto and Nara, with enough time to walk, stop, eat and actually notice where we are. No racing between landmarks simply to say we saw them.
Back in Kyoto for dinner and another evening in the old capital.
Core Experiences
Osaka
Osaka has a very different personality. We transfer in, visit Osaka Castle, explore the market streets and leave a little room for what the city takes most seriously. Food.
By evening, we join a local food experience through Osaka. After that, Dotonbori.
Neon reflected in the river, enormous mechanical signs, bars tucked into side streets and no particular reason to have an early night.
Core Experiences
Osaka
Today comes with a choice. Take a day trip to Hiroshima for one of the most historically significant stops in Japan. Or stay in Osaka.
Sleep in. Wander. Shop. Find another bowl of noodles. Photograph things. Find a park full of Sakura. Do absolutely nothing productive.
Both are valid uses of a holiday.
Core Experiences
Osaka
No heroic final morning. Breakfast, last-minute convenience-store purchases, badly organised suitcases and the inevitable discussion about which city everyone liked most.
Then goodbyes and onward flights.
Core Experiences
An outline, not a military schedule. Japan rewards curiosity, and some days will shift with timings, availability and the group.

Good to know
A fast-moving, city-to-city Japan itinerary built around Sakura season. Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto and Osaka, each with a very different pace and personality.
The trip starts in Tokyo and ends in Osaka.
On Day 7 you can choose a day trip to Hiroshima (approx. ₹20,000, subject to final availability and pricing) or a free day in Osaka. Either way is a good use of the day.
Depending on the day, you can add experiences like Shinjuku/Harajuku nightlife, Tokyo Skytree, karaoke, Zen meditation, izakaya evenings or a Dotonbori pub crawl. The optional activity list is shared closer to departure.
Most people do. Solo travellers are the norm on a Voyagio trip, not the exception. Groups are built so that arriving alone never feels like it.
Twelve people at most, and a Voyagio host throughout. We read every application partly to make sure the group works well together.
Rooms are twin-share by default and we pair thoughtfully. A private room can be arranged at an additional cost. Tell us when you apply.
Comfortably. Expect walking days, some hills around Hakone and Kyoto, and a fair bit of standing during Sakura-week crowds. Nothing technical, nothing you need to train for.
We reply within 24 hours and set up a call. Nothing is due until we’ve spoken and both feel it’s the right fit.
International flights and visas are your own. Transport for planned experiences within Japan is included.
