The Rabbit Hole
Six days by the ocean
Start here
Mornings start in the water: a swim, turtles at sunrise, or just your feet in the Indian Ocean.
Afternoons are for long lunches, beach clubs and doing very little.
Evenings are for sunsets, seafood and conversations that run late.
This is Sri Lanka’s south coast, taken slowly.
Mirissa and Weligama for the water, Galle’s old fort for an afternoon, and a last night in Colombo.
Feet in first. The south coast after dark.
01
Slow down
Arrive on the coast, swim, and let the first day be as easy as it sounds.
02
Get in the water
Turtles at sunrise, the mangroves by boat, and whale watching if you fancy an early start.
03
Leave lighter
Go home rested, salt-skinned and already planning your next stretch of coast.
Ocean
Curious
“I need a few days by the sea.”
In the water
Swim, snorkel, float.
Coast time
Stop checking the time.
Rabbit Hole
Start planning holidays around the ocean, not the sights.
Day by day
Four nights on the south coast with the water close every day, then a last night in Colombo.
Days 1–6
Chapter 1Mirissa & Weligama
Mirissa
Land in Sri Lanka and make your way south towards Mirissa. Check in and settle into island time.
Head straight for Kai Beach Club for lunch, the sea and a first swim, then stay for sunset and your first evening together. Dinner is Sri Lankan, in Mirissa.
Core Experiences
Optional
Chapter 1 · Day 2
Into the water.
Sunrise at Coconut Tree Hill, then into the water with the turtles. Brunch in Weligama and a long afternoon by the sea. The day this trip is built around.
Prefer to stay dry? The beach club, the cafés and the view are still right there.
WeligamaOcean day
Wake up early to catch sunrise at Coconut Tree Hill, then get into the water for a morning snorkelling session with turtles.
Head towards Weligama for brunch, then spend the afternoon at the beach club. Swim, eat, add an optional cooking class or surf session, or do absolutely nothing.
Return to Mirissa for dinner. For anyone still going, Ahangama has plans after dark.
Core Experiences
Optional
South CoastOcean option
Today, Sri Lanka gives you options.
Regroup in Mirissa in the evening for dinner. Optional night out at The Doctor’s House.
Option 1: Whale watching
An early morning out at sea searching for some of the ocean’s largest residents.
Option 2: Yala safari
Head inland in search of elephants, crocodiles, monkeys, birdlife and, with a little luck, a leopard.
Option 3: Slow south coast
Sleep in and spend the day around Mirissa and Ahangama: cafés, beaches, another swim and whatever catches your eye.
Chapter 2Galle
Galle
Head north towards Galle for brunch, coffee and a little shopping around the Fort.
Explore Galle’s old streets, then head out on the water for a mangrove boat safari and a stop at the turtle conservation centre.
Catch sunset by the Indian Ocean before one last south-coast night in Mirissa.
Core Experiences
Chapter 3Colombo
Colombo
One last look at the ocean before checking out and heading to Colombo.
Settle into the hotel, then a late lunch and an easy afternoon before heading out for Colombo city exploration. Finish the night rooftop hopping above the city.
Core Experiences
Colombo
A slow morning in Colombo, brunch at a local café. Pick up last-minute souvenirs, then check out.
Airport transfer and the journey back to India. Slightly more tanned, considerably more rested, and already missing the sea.
Core Experiences
An outline, not a schedule. Days shift with weather, the sea and the group.
From a past trip
A Voyagio group on Sri Lanka’s south coast. Sound on.
What you come back with
Every day, in some way: a swim, the turtles, the mangroves, maybe a whale.
Six days with nowhere to rush to, and plenty of room to do nothing at all.
Mornings in the water, seafood, coastal roads and enough time to enjoy where you are.
Questions
This is a south-coast trip with the ocean running through it, not an itinerary to keep up with.
Come for the coast. Stay for the pace.
